Who we are and what we do
SCAT is a Children’s Theatre Company which has been in continuous operation since 1982, performing stimulating and intelligent shows, and running participatory workshops in schools and community venues across Hampshire and local counties. Overall, approximately 95% of our work is in schools, the rest being in arts centres, theatres, village halls, etc.
We operate all year round, with a typical repertoire including:
- A show for Infants (4 to 7 year olds)
- A show for pre-school children (3 and 4 year olds)
- A range of workshops for 4 to 11 year olds
Plus:
- December to February – a show for 5 to 10 year olds.
- All shows are original, being devised and built by SCAT, and featuring actors and puppets in a full, colourful stage set.
- SCAT’s very experienced co-directors, Paul Hayles and Gerry (Geraldene) Owen, perform in the shows for Infant and Pre-School children, and also run the Workshop sessions.
- Three professional actors are contracted each year to perform the shows for 5 to 10 year olds (our BIG show!).
- As SCAT operates in a restricted geographical area, we depend on repeat bookings from schools (unlike most nationally-touring theatre companies). Thus our years of continuous operation is a testimony to the quality of SCAT’s work.
